This 4 star camp is a green oasis in the Bush with are only six African rondawels and two Family Lodges, ensuring the luxury of a small and intimate camp.
Two daily guided game activities are included, the first departing before sunrise and the second as the day begins to cool, using spotlights after dark to search for the nocturnal animals.
Nestled under age-old trees with a panoramic view over the bush and onto a waterhole.
The Lodge is easily accessible, yet one enters an entirely different world once within the camp. The emphasis here is upon close-up encounters with Africa’s spectacular wildlife, from the mighty elephant, the impressive lion or the miniscule termite.
Mohlabetsi is home to an array of spectacular wildlife, including the “Big Five”. World famous for its abundance of animal, bird and reptile life, we have sighted over 30 mammal species, 220 different kinds of birds and a dazzling variety of reptiles, insects and plants.
The area is typical wooded savannah, with marula, knobthorn and leadwood trees predominant. As the annual rainfall is generally low, waterholes become focus points, especially in winter. Animals are largely territorial, so we are assured of excellent sightings during our safari activities.
Game drives are conducted in specially modified Landrovers, renowned for their comfort and reliability. As the vehicles are open, you are assured of excellent all-round visibility, as well as the excitement of meeting Africa’s Big Five close up with nothing between you! The rangers are well versed in ensuring that you have a thrilling and informative safari.
The Bush takes on a different aspect when on foot. Your experienced ranger will take you walking if you so wish. Feel the exhilaration of stalking animals, finding new birds or learning the ways of the Baboon Spider and other creepy-crawlies!
A small, intimate Lodge, with only 20 beds, guests are assured of comfort and unobtrusive attentiveness, combined with an intimacy with nature.
The entrance is a thatched portico leading onto a lounge, bar and dining area. Alma’s spectacular Curio shop offering locally made souvenirs is well worth a visit too. the Boma is a reeded enclosure with a crackling log fire, where sumptuous dinners are served.
A rondawel is a typical African “round hut” under thatch. They are tastefully appointed in an ethnic theme and each have a marvelous al fresco shower for a wonderful “close to nature“ experience. The rooms are fully equipped with amenities and toiletries as well as hairdryers and personal safes. The windows and entrance are insect-proofed for your comfort and there is a ceiling fan for those warm summer nights.
There are four twin bedded rondawels and two with a king size bed. It is also possible to place a small sleeper bed in the room for a young child.
Our Family Lodges offer superb comfort for small parties. Each Lodge has two rooms with an interleading door for privacy. One room has a Queen bed and the other has two single beds – it is possible to add a sleeper bed too, thereby accommodating five guests. Each room has its own facilities and al fresco shower. The Lodges are equipped similarly to the Rondawels.
Meals are a culinary delight! Romantic dinners are served around the fire in the reeded Boma or on the lawn under the stars. Fresh local ingredients are used and many of our condiments and herbs are produced here at the Lodge. The accent is on typical South African country fare, with dishes to suit all palates. Special requests are handled with pleasure!

Meet the Ashtons Kruger Shuttle at OR Tambo Airport bus Terminal 06h45 and start your journey to the Kruger. On arrival in the Greater Kruger the shuttle will drop you off at the Balule York gate where Mohlabetsi will be waiting to take you into the reserve to your Lodge and get you settled in before Lunch is served In the late afternoon, arm yourself with binoculars and cameras and set off with your ranger in an open Landrover.
You will stop at a vantage point as the sun goes down and the day turns swiftly to night, to enjoy sundowner drinks and snacks. The flashlights come on as we search for secretive nocturnal creatures, from the sleek genet, the cute bush baby to an unforgettable view of a leopard.
Back at the Lodge, the campfire is blazing, heralding a romantic dinner in the boma. Dinners are a social affair, with guests mingling with their hosts as they enjoy fireside cuisine with an African influence. Tasty starters are accompanied by our famous “pot brood”, freshly baked in a cast iron pot nestled in the coals. There is always a poultry dish as well as a traditional meat meal for main course and one of these dishes is always cooked over the fire. Desserts are usually a fruit flambé, prepared with much fanfare as the chef disappears behind a wall of flame! During the warmer summer evenings, we serve candlelit dinners under the stars.
Retire to your comfortable room, with a multitude of memories, to prepare yourself for the excitement of the day ahead.
DAYS 2 – 3 (or more)

Your ranger will lead you off on foot too, to discover sights which you would miss from a vehicle. The dawn chorus of birdsong is particularly memorable.
