Ezulwini is home to the Big 7, (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, Hippo & Crocodile) – and Approximately 150 other mammal and 460 other bird species, making it one of the best spots in South Africa for bird watching.

The biodiversity of the region is extensive, supporting more than 2000 plant species including over 380 recognized tree species, (this represents 50% of all trees found in Southern Africa). There are more than 235 different species of grass.  This is a sweet-veld region supporting a high concentration and diversity of fauna.

Billy’s Lodge
Located on the banks of a seasonal river surrounded by the resident lion pride, this private Safari Lodge features unparalleled views of plains game, and gorgeous Knobthorn, Leadwood and Marula trees indigenous to the western savannah region of Ezulwini.  Billy’s Lodge incorporates layers of  organic African architecture and material in it’s sumptuous lounge areas, dining rooms and decks.

River Lodge
This luxury lodge is located in the Riverine Forest, which boasts the magnificent Olifants River–largest in all of the lowveld.  It also features two of the largest trees in South Africa, a sycamore fig (with a diameter in excess of five metres), and a leadwood (with a diameter exceeding two metres). This region is home to hippos, crocodiles, elephants and other massive Riverine trees. If you are an avid bird watcher then the River Lodge is the place for you!

Safaris 
Enjoy twice-daily safaris through thousands of hectares of prime game-viewing area with undisturbed traversing in open Land Rovers. Become one with nature in an intimately romantic and uniquely African ambiance as you absorb this enchanting world of sound, scent, and color. Enjoy a sundowner with spectacular sunset views of Drakensberg Mountains, and experience exquisitely clear night skies on a late drive, complete with spotlights to probe the dark for nocturnal African wildlife.

Billy’s Lodge
Offering four private and spacious, luxury suites, complete with a personal lounge, mini-bar, dining area, super king-size bed, en-suite bath, indoor and outdoor shower, private plunge pool and a deck with unspoiled views of the surrounding bush.

Billy’s Lodge also boasts one of the finest wine cellars in Africa; set against the natural rock face in resemblance of an ancient Bushman cave. Superb chefs and rangers will ensure you have the memorable stay with the unique blend of indigenous tradition and modern luxury. To guarantee intimacy, tranquility, and exclusivity, Billy’s Lodge will never exceed its’ maximum of twelve guests.

River Lodge
River Lodge has an entertainment area including a lounge, bar, and gorgeous swimming pool, all housed under a traditional thatched roof. Its elegant dining deck is set in the riverine vegetation, which looks out over the Olifants River, and our elevated thatched viewing deck overlooks the local water hole, which adds an intimately native ambiance to this lodge.

Exellent cuisine and skillful rangers will give you an experience of Africa to remember forever. Luxury, thatched, twin bed chalets, with en-suite bathrooms, accommodate a maximum of fourteen guests.

Its accommodations, all originally built in the 1940′s, have been furnished with that era in mind, but restored for ultimate comfort and luxury.

Location:

Ezulwini is situated in the Balule region of the Greater Kruger Park, close to Hoedspruit, approximately 5-6 hour’s drive from Johannesburg International Airport

The simplest and most affordable way to get between Johannesburg and the lodge is to make use of the Ashtons Kruger Shuttle, which operates daily in both directions between Johannesburg and Hoedspruit. Please note that the shuttle rates are included in our packages. Before/after the 5-6 hour road transfer you will be transferred between the Balule gate and the relevant Ezulwini lodge. Getting to and from Ezulwini could not be simpler!

Requirements:

  • The Greater Kruger is a malaria area – please take your own precautions
  • Walking shoes, neutral coloured clothing, rain jacket and warm jersey/jacket
  • Hat and sunglasses, sun block and insect repellent
  • Torch, camera & binoculars
  • Toiletries and any personal items
  • Cash for entrance fees and drinks (no ATM’s in the bush)
  • Booking prerequisite: guests must have adequate travel insurance to cover any emergency, casualty evacuation, and/or hospitalization for the full period of their safari

DAY 1

Meet the Ashtons Kruger Shuttle at OR Tambo Airport bus Terminal 06h45 and start your journey to the Kruger. On arrival in the Greater Kruger the shuttle will drop you off at the Balule Olifants West gate where Ezulwini Lodge will be waiting to take you into the reserve to your Lodge and get you settled in before Lunch is served, followed by an afternoon guided game activity and dinner.

DAYS 2 – 3 (or more)

At the break of dawn wake up and enjoy some coffee/Tea before adventuring out on your morning game drive into the wild.

On return you will enjoy a hearty breakfast. After breakfast enjoy your morning at Leisure.Lunch is served,between 13h30-14h30 & afternon Tea before your Sun Downer Game Drive.At 15h30-15h45 you will depart for your afternoon Game Drive .

Back at the game Lodge after 19h00 you will enjoy a wholesome supper. After a long day in the bush there is nothing more rewarding than to lie in bed and listen to the sounds of the night under a blanket of the overwhelming African stars!

FINAL DAY

Set off at first light for your final guided game activity – appreciating the typical scents and sounds of the bush you’ll realise how much you’ve learned already! After breakfast back at the safari camp it’s time to pack up and say our reluctant goodbyes; you are then transferred back to meet the Ashtons Kruger Shuttle bound for Johannesburg. Whatever you have seen and done you will have had an up-close and personal experience of the real African bush and wildlife! And a whole new world of experiences awaits for your next visit.
